This graph is a 2 year look at the gas mileage I’ve achieved in my 2006 Acura TSX. I’ll have more on the details in a later post.

What happened in late Feb. 2007?

I went to see my wife in Memphis with my mother-in-law. She paid for the gas so I didn’t have the data to calculate that one.

How did you track your gas stats? Does your Acura do this for you automatically, or did you do it by hand?

My Acura does have an MPG element to the multi-information display (MID).
When I fill up I write down the miles on the tank, total mileage for the car and the MPG reading from the MID on the gas receipt. I take that information and put it into an Excel spreadsheet where I do certain calculations to look for trends, etc.
I also mark certain points in time where my driving habits change. For example: I started a new job in March so my commute changed. I’ll be able to look back in a couple of months at how my MPG has fluctuated based on the new route.

Your “gas stats” are inspiring me. I may have to follow suit.

I plan to write a post about my findings and include my Excel template. Stay tuned.
